Marvel’s next star might be Oscar-nominated Hailee Steinfeld

Disney is reportedly eyeing Hailee Steinfeld in a lead role for Disney+’ upcoming “Hawkeye” series where she will star alongside Jeremy Renner.

The Dickinson star was reportedly offered the role of Kate Bishop as reported by Deadline. In Marvel’s comic books, Bishop succeeds Clint Barton (Renner) as Hawkeye. She is a known member of the Young Avengers which includes characters Iron Lad, Hulkling, Patriot and Speed among others. Attached to the project is Jonathan Igla who will reportedly write and executive produce Hawkeye.

With Steinfeld’s star power it’s hard not to get ahead of ourselves and assume that the Hawkeye series would eventually develop into a standalone series for the actress. We might even see her appear in the upcoming phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with members of the Young Avengers.

If Steinfeld and Disney eventually come to an agreement, this would be the actress’ second starring role on television. The Oscar-nominated actress headlines Apple TV+’ comedy and coming-of-age series Dickinson. The highly-anticipated series will see Steinfeld as a young Emily Dickinson, one of the most profound American poets in history.

Casting Steinfeld is undoubtedly a good move for Disney. The multi-talented star is acclaimed in the film industry and has made a name for herself in the music industry as well. Her breakthrough role as Mattie Ross in True Grit earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress back in 2011.

Since then, Steinfeld has gone on to star in multiple films including Bumblebee, The Edge of Seventeen and the Pitch Perfect franchise. If all goes well, Hawkeye won’t be her first project with Marvel. Steinfeld lends her voice to Gwen Stacy in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
