Is Quentin Tarantino backing out of Star Trek?

Quentin Tarantino says that he might not be involved in the next Star Trek film. The esteemed director has been attached to the Star Trek franchise since 2017.

This is terrible news for those hoping to see Tarantino’s take on the Starfleet. The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood filmmaker suggested in a recent interview that a Star Trek movie from him won’t be materializing.

“I think I’m steering away from Star Trek, but I haven’t had an official conversation with those guys yet,” Tarantino shared to Consequence of Sound about whether his potential Star Trek film will be his last prior to retiring from the industry.

He continued, “In a strange way, it seems like this movie, Hollywood, would be my last. So, I’ve kind of taken the pressure off myself to make that last big voilà kind of statement. I mean to such a degree there was a moment when I was writing and went, ‘Should I do this now? Should I do something else? Is this the 10th one?’ No, no, don’t stop the planets from aligning, what are you, Galactus? If the Earth is saying do it, do it.”

Tarantino was first attached to the franchise two years ago. It was revealed that Mark L. Smith will be writing a script based on the director’s concept after the project was unveiled. The potential project continued to pique the interest of fans as Tarantino spoke about it openly during the Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood press tour last summer.
