Eddie Murphy is making Beverly Hills Cop 4 happen

Eddie Murphy’s legacyquels are on a roll. As the comedian, and actor continues to re-ignite Murphy magic, we’re getting more than just “Coming 2 America”.

The comedy legend recently revealed that he’s hard at work to make the fourth installment of the Beverly Hills Cop movies series. Murphy will be reprising his role as Axel Foley in a big-screen return not long after Coming 2 America hits theaters in 2020.

Murphy made the announcement himself in an interview as per the movie news outlet Collider. Without mincing words, here’s what the comic has to say about his plans for the film:

“Yeah, that’s what we’re doing after Coming to America 2. We’re doing Beverly Hills Cop and then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand-up. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly is stand-up. These movies and Saturday Night Live it’s kind of like… I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decided I wanted to stay on the couch forever, I ended it on a funny note.”

News of a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film first circulated back in 2017. Multiple outlets reported at the time that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) were on board to direct it.

In addition to that, a series spin-off from the franchise was proposed to CBS. The series was supposed to star Brandon T. Jackson as Aaron Foley, Axel’s son. But CBS ultimately dropped the pilot and the franchise ended up in limbo for quite a long time. Now, a promising future for its revival is ahead.
