Adam Sandler calls out his Oscars snub at the Spirit Awards

Adam Sandler let the Oscars know exactly what he thinks of being snubbed for what might be his career-best leading role in the film Uncut Gems.

The comedian was awarded Bes Lead Actor at the 35th Independent Spirit Awards held in Santa Monica, California on Sunday. His win was received with enthusiasm and heartwarming applause from the crowd at the indie gala. He then delivered a hilarious speech entirely in a voice impression that prompted a belly full of laughter from each audience member.

In the hilarious speech, Sandler likened being snubbed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to loosing the “best looking” yearbook title back when he was in high school. The actor recalled losing the titled to some “feather-headed douchebag,” but he’s not losing sleep over it nor over the Oscars. He then recounted that he instead was recognized with the title “best personality.”

“Tonight as I look around this room, I realize the Independent Spirit Awards are the best personality awards of Hollywood,” the Uncut Gems star added.

He also had a message for the “feather-haired douchebag motherf—-ers” at the Oscars.

“Their handsome good looks will fade in time, while our independent personalities will shine on forever,” the actor declared to the applause of the crowd.

Sandler stars as Howard Ratner — a jeweler and heavy gambler — in the Netflix crime thriller. The film’s plot follows Ratner as he attempts to retrieve a wildly expensive gem he bought to pay off his gambling debts.
