Actor Kevin Spacey faces sexual misconduct case in court

Kevin Spacey was swarmed by media as he quietly arrived in a Nantucket court. The 59-year-old actor is facing charges of indecent assault and battery.

The man who filed for the criminal case against Spacey was 18 at the time of the alleged incident back in 2016. The incident took place at Nantucket bar, Club Car, where the accuser worked as a busboy.

The alleged victim is the son of a local news anchor from Boston, Massachusetts. The news presenter, Heather Unruh, went public regarding the allegations last year. Her son was not present during the court proceedings.

Spacey was not legally mandated to attend the pre-trial hearing but appeared alongside his lawyers. The lawyers pleaded not-guilty on the actorā€™s behalf during the hearing.

BBC reports that the actor remained silent during the court hearing. Spacey could possibly be held behind bars for 5 years if found guilty. After the 10-minute hearing, he was released without bail.

The two-time Oscar winner had been the subject of multiple sexual misconduct accusations in the past couple of years. This is the only court case that was filed against him. Assault claims against the actor have surfaced in Los Angeles, California and as far as London, England.

Claims against Spacey surfaced in the wake of the #metoo movement. The allegations have caused a drawback in the actorā€™s career. House of Cards, a Netflix series that the actor starred in, had to fire him from the show amidst sexual misconduct claims.

Actress Judi Dench has since defended him when asked about the allegations in an interview with Variety. To which she said ā€œI canā€™t approve, in any way, of the fact thatā€”whatever he has doneā€”that you then start to cut him out of the films,ā€
