Billy Porter is Camila Cabello’s fairy godmother in Cinderella remake

Billy Porter is bringing in a fabulous twist to Sony’s upcoming Cinderella remake starring Camila Cabello.

The Emmy award-winning actor confirmed the news of his involvement in the live-action adaptation of the fairytale classic. Porter will be taking on the role of Cabello’s fairy godmother in the film.

Porter was in attendance at the New Yorker Festival last weekend. While he was there, the acclaimed actor shared the exciting news in an Instagram Story posted by the prestigious publication.

“I have a couple movies that I’m working on,” Porter shares in the clip. “I’m gonna be playing the fairy godmother in the new Cinderella movie with Camila Cabello.”

News of a live-action adaptation of Cinderella first broke in April. At the time, Entertainment Tonight reported that the film will mark Cabello’s feature film acting debut. The story is from late-night show host James Corden’s original concept. Corden will be producing the film with Leo Pearlman of Fulwell 73 productions.

Aside from starring in the film, Cabello will be hands-on with the movie’s soundtrack. The pop star will reportedly come up with new music for the film. Based on Cabello and Porter’s singing chops, we can hope that the upcoming project will be a musical. Production for the film has been fast-tracked with director Kay Cannon attached to the project. The Sony-backed film is reportedly slated for a February 5, 2021 release.

Just a day after we received confirmation from Porter himself, Deadline reported that Broadway star Idina Menzel is in talks to play the evil stepmother, Evelyn. If this pushes through, it will be another big role for Menzel who lends her voice to Frozen’s Queen Elsa.
