Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift plans to get involved in political discussions through her music. She confirms that her seventh studio album has “political undertones” in an interview with German news outlet RTL. The pop star’s words in the RTL article has been translated, “I’m not planning to stop encouraging young people to vote and to try to get them to talk about what’s going on in our country.”
Swift is famously known for avoiding political discussions in the past. She faced public backlash for preferring not to use her influence to support just political causes. In the 2016 American presidential elections, the singer kept mum on her political stance raising eyebrows among her fans. It seems that she’s on her way to redemption now that she’s choosing to be more involved in today’s political climate.
The pop star’s political involvement started during last year’s United States midterm elections. Through an Instagram post, Swift wrote a rare public statement admitting she was “reluctant” to express her opinions.

The post was written in support of two Democratic nominees running in Tennessee. In the same post, she expressed strong criticism against Republican U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn. She also announced her support for the LGBTQ community writing “”I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.”
