Pea and ham soup recipe

Ingredients

  • 450 grams of diced ham
  • 3 cloves of sliced garlic
  • 2 diced sticks of celery
  • 1/2 diced onion
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 bay leef
  • 2 1/2 cups of water
  • 1 litre of chicken stock
  • 450 grams of dried split peas
  • salt and pepper for garnishing

Instructions

  • Melt your butter in a large soup pot over medium to low heat.
  • Stir in your onion, garlic and celery.
  • Cook these ingredients slowly for about 5 to 8 minutes. The onion should be clear and not brown.
  • Mix in your ham, peas and bay leaf.
  • Pour in the chicken stock and water.
  • Stir to combine the mixture and simmer it over low heat until it starts to thicken.
  • Stir occasionally over 1 hour and 15 minutes of cooking time.
  • Serve the soup warm, garnished with salt and pepper.
