5 awesome video-games to play with your kids

Times have changed. Children seem more interested in playing video games than heading outside with dad to toss a ball around or helping mum cook. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the relationship with you and your child! Perhaps taking part in something they love could further strengthen your relationship with them… Just refrain from grounding them the moment they call you a ‘Noob’.

Here is 5 video-games that are great for both kids and adults:

  1. Undertale

This is an odd one to start off our list; Undertale is a relatively new indie-style game released in 2015 that emulates the feeling of old school 8-bit gaming. It is about the world of monsters living parallel to ours. In the game, you will take on the role of a human child who has fallen into their realm and has to find an escape.

The game has multiple endings, an amazing world to explore, characters that you will fall in love with and one hell of a lesson to learn. This game is a must-play game for any parent who wants something to talk about with their kids. Though it isn’t multiplayer, it is easily inclusive and will have you and your kids talking endlessly.

Recommended for ages 8+.

Okay, we know you’ve played this one. It’s a classic. No child should grow up having not played this game. Mario Kart 64 is a fun multiplayer game originally brought out on the Nintendo 64 console in 1996 and has been enraging people ever since.

For a truly fun multiplayer experience which will get the whole family involved, this is definitely the game for you and your child! Take on the challenge as Princess Peach, Bowser, Wario, Luigi or of course; Mario and many other character selections and put pedal to metal to show your kid who’s boss. Just make sure you look out for those blue Koopa shells!

Everyone has heard of Minecraft. This game has taken the world by storm since its initial release in 2009 as a light-hearted sandbox game. Since then, it has grown into a world-wide phenomenon that has brought together thousands of fans across the globe. As a multiplayer game, Minecraft will have you and your kid’s eyes glued to the screen for hours upon hours.

Everything is possible in this game and only your imagination can limit you. Want to build a castle? Here is your chance. Anything you can imagine can be made and it’s one heck of an experience. What better way to bond with your kid than building a 50000 square high castle and conquering a dragon?

  1. The Legend of Zelda Series

This is simply another of those games that MUST be played by anyone who likes to call themselves a gamer. From the first game in 1986 to the latest Breath of the Wild (2017), this series is PACKED with fun for anyone of any age. There is a whole plethora of titles to choose from and each is jam-packed with puzzles, quests, exploration and secrets.

Playing as Link, the gamer will enter a world of magic and wonder in their search for either Princess Zelda, a way to rescue her, or the legendary item that is needed to defeat the evil that threatens the land. All gamers, child and adult alike will find heart, beauty and true passion in these games.

Originally created by Shigeru Miyamoto to emulate the feeling he had whilst exploring the caves near his home as a young boy, The Legend of Zelda series will take you back to a time when things had an amazing sense of wonderment for you and will surely burrow its way into your heart, leaving an impression for years to come.

Voodoo Vince is a quite unknown game that was developed for the original Xbox in 2003 by Beep Industries and has since gathered a huge cult following, leading to a remastered version more recently brought out in 2017 for all its loving fans.

The story follows Vince, a wise-cracking voodoo doll with the power to eliminate his enemies using magic to saw himself in half, crush himself, blow himself up and all other manner of things. After his creator, Madam Charmaine, is kidnapped in her magic store and her magic spilled, causing the world to warp into darkness, he sets out to find the evil ‘Kosmo the Inscrutable’ and put an end to the madness.

You will have a world of fun with your kids as you explore the world around you, taking in the amazing setting and superb Jazz soundtrack. Just be prepared for a wild ride.

Recommended for ages 6+.

Playing video games with your kid could not get more fun with these titles in the mix. You will have endless hours of fun as you connect with your children like never before!
