Trevor Stevenson shares some thoughts where to stay in Samoa

Trevor Stevenson managing his family holiday resort Stevensons at Manase in Samoa whish is one of the best holiday resorts in Samoa. The Resort is named after Robert Louis Stevenson (“RLS”), the famous Scottish novelist and poet who made his home in Samoa from 1889 until his untimely death in 1894.

Trevor answered a few questions:

Why do you think Samoa is such a great destination for holidays and weddings?

It’s the perfect place to come for a relaxing holiday. The scenery is beautiful and our culture is still very much alive and evident for visitors to witness. There are also plenty of different activities on offer for those who prefer a more active holiday.

When people ask where to stay in Samoa, why do you recommend Savaii?

Many people refer to Savaii as ‘the real Samoa’. Its more traditional and even more laid back than Upolu. You haven’t truly seen Samoa until you’ve seen Savaii too!

What are the types of rooms you have made available?

We have 3 different levels of accommodation, all of which are located directly on the beach. Our Suites and Villas cater to the visitor who prefers a higher end level of accommodation, while the Eurofales cater to the visitor who wants to have a Samoan Fale experience but with some creature comforts such as an ensuite, ceiling fans, a bed and a deck from which to enjoy the view. All our rooms feature local building materials and decore ensuring Samoan themes are evident in all areas of the hotel.

What kind of dining experiences can people look forward to?

Fresh local produce is used in all our dishes including local fish, lobster, and steak while our specials board provides variety for those staying for extended periods. We have a childrens menu and can cater for special dietary requirements. Our Saturday night fiafia includes an umu buffet and for those interested in local food preparation techniques we invite our guests to enjoy the umu demonstration.

What are the most popular attractions available during a stay at Stevenson’s?

Many of our guests like to simply relax and enjoy the hotel facilities. Our beach is quite unique in that there are fresh water springs that bring cool water up through the sand thus making the seawater cool and refreshing. We also have resident turtles living in our water so guests regularly spot turtles while snorkeling at high tide or even from the verandah of their room. We are also lucky to have many local sights and attractions nearby for our guests to explore.

These include the lavaflow where the virgins grave is located, Mt Matavanu crater, Swimming with the Turtles, Dwarfs cave, Peapea cave. Dive Savaii is located 3km down the road and do free transfers for those wanting to do dive or snorkel trips. We can arrange for tours and also have rental cars available.
