Today’s massive AFL line up

Today we have four AFL games lined up, and the results will be very interesting. The Brisbane Lions take on the Carlton Blues at The Gabba this afternoon, with Port Adelaide facing St Kilda (in Adelaide) straight after. Tonight the Western Bulldogs play Hawthorn at Etihad and Melbourne have a game against Fremantle in Darwin.

The Blues and Lions could easily decide the AFL wooden spoon this year, with Brisbane currently on 2 wins from 14 attempts while Carlton have only 1. The playoff between the two worst teams in the league at least has the virtue of looking like a close encounter, unlike when either of them play anybody else. The Lions will take some confidence from their victory in Fremantle last week, and should get over the top of the hapless Blues.

The Power vs the Saints should be a relatively straightforward win to the home team, but this season there is always an upset looming. St Kilda beat the high flying Demons last week to send them back to the pack chasing the finals, so they do have a chance at this.

The Bulldogs are also in form, with a strong victory over Geelong last week (although this is coming too late for their finals hopes). Hawthorn, on the other hand, is another top 8 contender that has recently slipped, losing to GWS last week to fall to 10th place. The Hawks are a better team, but they will be low on confidence while Footscray are on the up. This should be a good game, but the class of the Hawks should see them get over the line.

The Melbourne Demons will be desperate to get back into the winners circle this week against Fremantle, playing in Darwin. The Dockers had a horror game last week to lose at home to the lowly Lions, while the Demons need to avenge the humiliation of a loss to St Kilda. If Melbourne can rediscover their early AFL season form they should romp over Freo, who do not travel well at all.
