University of York, UK researchers found the presence of antibiotics in 65% of the samples taken from rivers of 72 countries.
In Asia and Africa, the rivers had the most dangerous levels of contamination according to the research team. Samples from Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Pakistan showed alarming degrees of antibiotic contamination.
Concentrations of the antibiotic Metronidazole, used to treat a bacterial infection, was highest in Bangladesh. The research team claims that the rivers of Bangladesh were contaminated up to 300 times beyond safe levels.
Out of the 14 most commonly used antibiotics, Trimethoprim was found in 43% of all the samples. The results show that it is the most prevalent antibiotic in world rivers. Trimethoprim is used as a treatment for urinary tract infections (UTI).
According to researchers, the antibiotic found to most commonly exceed safe levels is Ciprofloxacin as it went beyond the safety threshold in 51 places.
The research team took the samples from 711 sites. These include world-famous rivers such as Danube, Mekong, Chao Phraya, Seine, Tigris, Thames, and Tiber.
High-risk sites that had dangerous levels of antibiotic contamination were mostly located near wastewater treatment plants or sewage dumps according to the study.
Rivers in developing countries most frequently surpassed safety levels. But, the findings do not exclude Europe or North and South America where contamination was also detected. According to researchers, the issue is a “global problem”.

A few days ago, Courtney Herron’s lifeless body was found in a Melbourne park. She died a homeless woman at the age of 25 years old.
Authorities described her cause of death as a “horrendous bashing”.
27-year-old homeless man, Henry Hammond was charged with Herron’s murder.
Herron is one among the four women who were killed, their bodies dumped in public, in a span of just 12 months.

Back in June last year, the body of Eurydice Dixon, 22, was found lifeless not too far from where Herron was found dead. Dixon was on her way home when she was raped and murdered by a man in Carlton.

21-year-old Aiia Maasarwe, an exchange student from Israel, was stalked and killed near her university. The killer dumped Maasarwe’s body near a shopping center. This was just seven months after Dixon’s brutal killing.
Last month, Natalina Angok fell victim to another horrendous murder. The man who killed her dumped her body in a Chinatown alleyway.
The killings have incited public outcry as the people of Melbourne mourn for these women who have been ruthlessly killed by men.
According to The Counting Dead Women project that focuses on “femicide” in Australia, 20 more unknown women were killed this year.

Dr Clayton Thomas developed a special interest in the area of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine after graduating from Medicine at Monash University in 1983.
Professor Hugh Barry, Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Melbourne, asked Dr Thomas to establish a Rehabilitation Pain Service for the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Essendon campus, developing new pain programs and researching patient outcomes.

Good news comes to the royal fans who wait. Those who are obsessed with Harry and Meghan’s love story were in for a treat last Monday. The sequel to lifetime’s romantic drama about the prince and the duchess aired and the TV movie was a hit.
The first Lifetime film, Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, was about how the royal couple met and fell in love. This time, it’s all about the story behind their decision to wed in the sequel Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal.
The lead actors were recast and Tiffany Smith who plays Meghan is equally captivating as the Duchess. Alongside her was leading man Charlie Field who played Harry in the movie. The two had undeniable chemistry and with performances that are truly moving.
The film is all about the royal wedding and is based on Meghan Markle’s heavily publicized family drama. It tackles the salacious rumors that surrounded the Markle family especially involving Meghan’s dad Thomas Markle.
We may not what really went down during this time in the Duchess’ life, but at least Lifetime makes an effort to paint us a picture. Much like the first movie about the royal couple, most of what happens in the film is pure fiction. It’s not a documentary after all. Still, the surprisingly satisfying movie was enough for royal fans.
Other familiar royal figures were also portrayed in the Lifetime movie. This includes Laura Mitchell as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge or better known to us as Kate Middleton. Prince William, on the other hand, is played by Jordan Whalen.
If you missed it, you’ll have to wait until lifetime somehow puts the movie up for online streaming.
