Hardcore fans of the Jonas Brothers are familiar with Nick Jonas’ health struggles. The singer was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. He went public with the diagnosis back in 2017 at the age of 15.
Now at 27-year-old, the musician is opening up about one of the most daunting health scares he experienced as a teenager. Nick revealed how seriously his health was at risk during a recent interview. The singer appeared on the cover of a magazine Cigar Aficionado where he revealed that his health complications almost led him to a coma.
“I was very close to a coma,” he said about the experience prior to being officially diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 13. “Like a day away, if I hadn’t gone to the hospital.” He then recalled to the publication, “I kept asking my parents, ‘Am I going to be OK?'”
Prior to going public with his health struggles, the singer was able to manage the blood condition while juggling his career.
Back in an interview with People in 2007, Jonas revealed that he lost almost 15 pounds of weight in just two weeks. This, along with obvious signs of being diabetic including drinking excessive amounts of water and soda a day.
In spite of his health condition, Jonas continues to strive hard in his career. Aside from the recent Jonas Brothers comeback, the singer has ventured into acting.
“I love acting because it’s something that I feel keeps me on my toes,” he tells the magazine. “I’m never in a spot where I’m totally comfortable, which I like.”
