With the Skywalker saga coming to a close when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiering in less than a month, there will be a major shift in the Disney-Lucas Film office moving forward.

With Kathleen Kennedy having her last year as the head of Lucas Film handing over the reins to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni moving forward.

Just this November 21st, the Hollywood Reporter reported that there is another Star Wars live-action film currently in development at Lucas Film that does not have anything to do with Rian Johnson’s trilogy and is obviously does not belong to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss when they were still on board with their now-defunct deal with Disney.

This means that this future movie is probably going to be headed by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. Hollywood Reporter said that they actually have a film in development that is scheduled to be released in 2022. This means even though Star Wars will be taking a hiatus on the big screen, we will probably have another Star Wars film is about three years that might jumpstart another trilogy if things go according to their plan.

According to the same report of The Hollywood Reporter, they will be announcing who the director will be for this upcoming project in January 2020 after a couple of weeks after The Rise of Skywalker has been released as is the tradition for a lot of Lucas Film news where they take a brief break after releasing a major movie followed up by a big announcement moving forward.

This is huge news though, as a three year hiatus is not that long compared to when Star Wars took a long break after Episode III. However, this does not mean that there will be a lack of supply of Star Wars content and media as you can still watch most of the released films on Disney+ and with the upcoming Star Wars-themed series lining up in the newly-released streaming platform, fans won’t have to wait for this unnamed Star Wars movie. The Mandalorian has already have fans hooked as the first Disney Star Wars television series and with baby Yoda catching everyone’s hearts. Another highly anticipated Star Wars television Series is Kenobi with the confirmation that Ewan McGregor reprising one of, if not his most iconic role ever.

At this point, we can only speculate what this unnamed Star Wars film will be focusing on given that the Star Wars lore and universe has a vast expanse outside of the main Skywalker storyline.

What do you think about it?
