Migdalia Flores (who goes by Daly) is the founder of Arch Angels NYC, which specialises in microblading, permanent makeup and other modern beauty trends. She opened the business because she had an interest in semi-permanent makeup, and wanted to help others to achieve the look they are after.
Daly, how did you get into the beauty industry?
I would say that the way I ended up in the beauty industry is a bit different than most others. Coming from an extensive background in psychology, work was my life. However, after getting pregnant with my first daughter I decided that I was going to be a stay-at-home mom.
Once I realized that there were few beauty shops that catered to my demographic and needs, I decided I would open one myself.
I am beauty obsessed, so that helped, but really it’s amazing what just a bit of research, determination, and a lot of passion can do for you. It got me to where I am. Special-Ed teacher turned mom-entrepreneuer and beauty guru!
What are the latest trends in eyebrow maintenance?
Trends change and adapt to increasing demands and the time of year, like seasons. Right now, microblading is making its way to the top, if not there already.
Women don’t want to spend more than 5-minutes on their brows each morning, and why should they?
Threading and waxing has become something of the past. The constant maintenance needed is costly and time-consuming. Microblading is quick, long-lasting, and an overall confidence booster!
What is microblading, and is it worth the money?
Like I previously said, eyebrow trends come and go. From thin and sharp to bold and bushy à la Cara Delevingne; basically, every other model who’s been in the limelight for the past few years has different brows. But, the new eyebrow trend that people just can’t seem to get enough of is microblading!
Microblading is a cosmetic tattoo technique that fills brows out or reshapes them by drawing on tiny lines that look like individual hairs.
We use a hand tool with small blades to create the most perfect brow strokes, and we fill in with the perfect pigment to match. Don’t just take it from me; if you ask people who have had it done they will tell you it’s worth every penny.
What is the best part of your job?
Honestly, I love what I do and it shows on every single one of my client’s faces– their happiness. Microblading and permanent cosmetics is an amazing career. But, it’s more than that— in a way, it becomes your lifestyle.
You seriously get to transform people’s brows right in front of them and they will love you for it. We don’t know what brings people in, whether it be self-esteem issues, medical conditions, or just simply making the choice to. The money may be nice, but it’s not the greatest reward.
Is permanent makeup what it sounds like?
Well, permanent makeup is exactly what it sounds like. There are degrees, like semi-permanent and fully-permanent, but in a way it’s all the same. Permanent makeup procedures are, in the long run, low maintenance. Through a process called micropigmentation, we can actually make it look as if you’ve just applied some new lipstick or eyeliner!
For all of these procedures and treatments, we use a local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort. Permanent cosmetics procedures can cost anywhere between $200 and $1000, but here at Arch Angels NYC we strive to make everything as affordable as can be. Also, we only employ professionals with the best training!
