J.Lo and Shakira are headlining the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show

Jennifer Lopez star power just continues to shine and now pop icon Shakira will be joining her on stage. The duo will be the main performers for the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.

J.Lo and Shakira broke the news on Instagram after teasing each other’s photos on their feeds. The music icons’ social media posts caused a firestorm. Immediately after, the exciting news was confirmed by the NFL on their official social media accounts.

The Latina performers follow in the footsteps of massive stars that have taken on the stage of the biggest concert show on US television. They now join the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake. Shakira and J.Lo are set to perform at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Feb. 2, 2020, for Super Bowl LIV audiences.

Jay-Z, the halftime show’s producer, previously noted that performers for next year’s event have to be those with close ties to Miami. This was taken as a hint by numerous news outlets speculating that Jennifer fits the description. Having Shakira in the mix is a pleasant surprise and a big win for representation in the Latin community. While Lopez grew up in New York and Shakira in Colombia, Miami is known for its roots tied to the Latin music industry.

The upcoming performance from the pair is expected to redeem the underwhelming show last year headlined by Maroon 5. Cardi B was approached to take the stage with them to perform her bit for the hit “Girls Like You”. However, the rapper adamantly declined in a show of support for Colin Kaepernick.
