Redecorating can be seen as a lot of fun and a great opportunity to get creative or it can be viewed as a chore. Redecorating is a really good opportunity to express yourself and add a more contemporary feel to your bedroom.

There are so many different elements that can be tinkered with that there really is no limited on what you do. However, going in without a plan can make things troublesome and at times leave you in a bit of a rut.

You don’t want to take the fun out of something that gives you the opportunity to be creative and express yourself so there are a few things to consider and plan to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Colour Coordination

Determining the colour scheme of your room is the most important part of the redecorating process. There are so many different colours to choose from and the colours chosen are going to determine the cost and versatility of the design.

For a simple design, choose a neutral wall colour that goes well with everything like white or a shade of grey. Both of these colours work really well with a variety of different pieces.

For something a little more vibrant, you can choose a colour on the lighter end of the scale like a pink, yellow or blue. The important thing when choosing a more vibrant wall colour is going for a lighter shade so that it doesn’t dominate the room too much.

Then it is about the colour of your bed linen and furniture pieces. If the walls are white or grey, natural wooden furniture is great and either white or darker colours like navy, brown or grey are best for the linen.

For more vibrant colours, try to mix the colours up a little bit, but again, make sure they aren’t too rich so that they dominate the room. It’s about finding the right mix that blends in with everything.

Furniture

If you’re lucky enough to have a room that has space for furniture this is the next big decision. This also includes the colour and shape of the bed frame and bed head respectively. Both of these need to fit in well with the rest of the room and match so that neither looks out of place.

Opting for a simple bed frame in either a dark or light wood is usually the best option as it is the most versatile. However, there is always the option of a metal frame for a more industrial look.

Then it comes down to – Do I want a vintage or contemporary look? A lot of this decision is made in the colour scheme because vibrant colours aren’t going to work as well with vintage pieces. However, if you’ve opted for a more neutral scheme, the choice is yours.

Bed Linen

This ties in closely with the colour coordination and forms a key part of any bedroom. Finding the right colours and patterns for the bed linen is going to be important in creating a welcoming feel to the bedroom.

Artwork and Accessories

These are what give the room that final touch of beauty to really complete the look. Spend time searching for the right piece of artwork and whether you want it framed or open.

If getting the artwork framed, make sure it matches the colour scheme and theme of the room.

For the accessories, these can be more of a work-in progress as you constantly add and change things in the room to get the look fresh and contemporary.
