The road to being a great leader

You don’t need the looks but you certainly need the charisma and that something which will make you stand out amongst all the other leaders. Stand tall and never look back because a true leader only looks forward as they walk past every milestone and failure which made them what they are today.

For those striving to excel as a leader here are some tips to make you the best leader:

Tip #1: Motivate

By the quality of work you do motivate and inspire those around you to be the best version of them. Lead an exemplary attitude towards work that others will follow, making you a natural leader.

Be a role model from getting to the office on time to following your work ethics. A true leader inspires and motivates others to excel by leading the way to a better and more advances version of themselves. Fortune explains that for 2017, Theo Epstein is the world’s greatest leader.

Tip #2: Honest

Be honest in your dealings with others.  A good leader is trusted by all and is transparent in their dealings with others.  Working in an environment where people trust each other improves the quality of work.

Honesty is the best policy when it comes to work and standing by that policy can reward you with a credible reputation and a good team to work beside you. You always reap what you sow.

Tip #3: Listen

To run an organisation smoothly it is important that you address to every employees concern and to make sure you do this in the best way is to listen. If you have an outstanding employee in the firm who does exceptional work make sure to keep them happy.

On the other side, if there’s someone who isn’t good enough make sure you help them do well. This improves the quality of your work force. Having a good team on your side is important.

Tip #4: Intuition

It means to have an intuitive mind and not leave everything to intense reasoning.  Not everything can be reasoned out and there are some matters which have to be left to the choice of your gut feeling.

The success of bringing forth a new idea is based on forecasting and going by what your heart is the best way to go forward. Your intuition tells you if an employee can be trusted or not and it cannot be left to your excel sheet to do the maths.

Taking a look back to your past experiences and asking for help only makes you a strong leader. For those with great intuition here’s some money saving tips to take your business to the next level.

Tip #5: Accessible

Being a leader doesn’t mean that you are to be a dictator. You don’t have to intimate and instil fear in your employees. Having a friendly approach towards your employees can pave way to a better working relationship. Make yourself more accessible to improve your connection with your employees which will help you build stronger work bonds.

It also gives you a better understanding of your organisation. The point of being accessible is to find out the barriers which cause gaps in the work done and if that’s lifted you can ensure better quality of work.

Tip #6: Communication

Although your organisation comprises of people coming in from different educational backgrounds, value systems and have different personality traits there can be many barriers. These gaps can only be bridged by effective communication. The channels of communication and the way in which you communicate should be efficiently established.

Also you have to be on top of your game when it comes to communication skills. No matter how high up in the ladder you may be, if you lack the ability to put into words or action the way you want things done, all your efforts are gone for a waste.

Tip #7: Confidence

You are a shepherd to your cattle which will follow you to the ends of the earth. You need to be confident with the path you choose and have to be sure that you have chosen the best path.

There might be days that are not as shiny and when you have these days be confident and make sure you bring back that rainbow after the mighty storm. The most important part of being a leader is to boost the morale of your team and it’s better done with a display of confidence amidst fear and doubt.

Remember that your employees will follow your lead and that if you’re confident they will be too. Have a look at how these 3 retail businesses have shown immense growth. They too started with just confidence.

Final Thoughts

There’s a lot of work to becoming a leader and the best leaders are not always born but are made with a lot of effort. Great leaders don’t set out to become great leaders but strive towards making a difference and that’s where true leaders are born.

Being a leader is not about getting a raise or having a fancier position but it’s about the action you take which puts you in control. You can be an effective leader without having millions of people following you.
