Supermodel Gigi Hadid is one of the potential jurors at Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial currently underway in New York City.
The news was revealed on Monday as attorneys for Weinstein and his accusers sift through over a hundred candidates for jury duty at the disgraced film producer’s trial. Hadid was spotted lining up into a Manhattan courtroom on the same day.
According to multiple reports, the supermodel told Manhattan Supreme Court Judge James Burke that she had met Weinstein before. She also said she knew actress Salma Hayek, one of the actresses accusing Weinstein of sexually harassing her. Hayek claimed that the movie mogul resorted to aggression when she refused his advances.
Hayek starred in the biopic Frida as esteemed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The 2020 film was distributed by Miramax Films — a company Weinstein co-founded with his brother, Bob Weinstein.
Hadid is known to be a close personal friend of a fellow model and actress Cara Delevingne. The English model came forward about her experience of sexual harassment with the defendant.
When the judge asked if Hadid could act as a juror without bias she reportedly answered: “I think I’m still able to keep an open mind on the facts.”
Weinstein is facing charges for allegedly raping a woman back in 2013, forcing another woman to perform oral sex in 2006 and predatory sexual assault. If found guilty, the producer might be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Hadid’s possible involvement in the highly publicized trial is one of the latest news about the case.
