Australian Fish & Chip Shop

Australian Fish & Chip Shop was established in 1959. The business was originally started in 1954/1955 at a previous location on Brighton Road, Hove next door to the iconic Tom the Cheap Grocer. Years later, construction work began nearby on new shop premises providing competitive rental and location opportunities.

In 1959 the business was relocated to its current location shop1, 339 Brighton Road, North Brighton, corner Gladstone Road. In the early ’90s, the shop was destroyed by fire caused by a suspected gas fault in the fryer cooker equipment; fortunately, the damage was contained to just the fish shop. The neighboring tenancies were not affected.

Business Owners Kosta and Artemis are a husband and wife team with a history in fish and chip/takeaway operations. Both grew up working in their family businesses as well as other fish shops, fish & chippers, cafes, snack bars & restaurants. Artemis had already been working at the shop for several years and in May 2010 together with Kosta purchased the business.
