“Detective Pikachu” star Justice Smith cast in HBO Max’s “Generation”

HBO’s forthcoming pilot “Generation” has its confirmed lineup of actors for its main cast.

Starring in the web TV series is “Detective Pikachu” and “Jurassic World” actor Justice Smith. Notable young stars appearing in the show’s pilot episode Chase Sui Wonders, Chloe East, Haley Sanchez, Nathanya Alexander, Nava Mau, Michael Johnston, Sam Trammel, and Uly Schlesinger.

Similar to the premium cable network HBO’s highschool drama “Euphoria”, Generation will explore themes of technology and modern sexuality. This tests boundaries between traditional beliefs about life, love, and family in a conservative set-up.

Previously announced to join the show is Martha Plimpton from the 1985 film The Goonies which also starred Josh Brolin.

Created by Daniel Barnz, Generation’s pilot episode will be from the man himself. Its line up of executive producers includes Barnz and Ben Barnz ( We’re Not Brothers Productions), Lena Dunham (Good Thing Going Production), and Zelda Barnz–Daniel and Ben’s 17-year-old daughter.

Original writing and creating credits were initially given to Zelda, but Variety reports that there’s a current situation in WGA that is preventing her to be credited as of yet.

According to the entertainment news outlet, Smith will be a series regular on the show playing a queer character. Smith will next be seen in the big screen starring alongside big names including Ryan Reynolds and Elle Fanning in the upcoming film “Bright Places.” His acting chops has managed to launch him in movies gaining an international audience so its no surprise HBO Max went for Smith to headline the show.
