Boats are great – but where do you put them?

Nothing beats that great ocean air. Weekends are made for exploring out on the water, and in Australia we are blessed with some incredible areas that are just waiting to be discovered. But before and after these trips, it’s important that your boat is stored in the right place with all the features and necessities included.

If you are looking to secure boat storage for your vessel and don’t know where to start or what to look for, make sure you round off these key considerations.

Ensure it has the right facilities

Chances are you have a boat with all the bells and whistles, and have all the tools required to make sure your boat performs as it should. This is the same level of care we want to expect from our boat storage options. Having the right facilities in place will get you in and out quicker, so that you can maximise your time out there on the water.

When considering marina berths for sale, nearby parking while save you a lot of hassle and time, and free parking is even better. Toilets on site as well as water and power will cover any emergencies you may have. Need fuel before you hit the water? Make sure your boat storage has boat flue access, both diesel and unleaded.

Find the right size for your vessel

You may have your eye on the right berth for your vessel, but make sure you are choosing a space that will accommodate your vessel to its entirety. It can be easy to look online and spot a great space, only to realise that you need more space so as to not damage your boat.

On the flip side, you may have overestimated the size of your vessel, and are now paying the price when you only need half the space. Typically the berths are 11 metres, 12 metres, 13 metres and 15 metres in size.

Security is key

Owning a boat is not a luxury known by all. The asset is worth a lot of money and thus needs to be protected with the highest level of security that you can afford. Berths with 24 hour security should be the only options you are looking at.

This security should be conducted by qualified professionals who can call you at any time should your boat be in any danger. When deciding on the right place to store your boat, you should look online for reviews from other boat owners who have stored their boat at the same place.

Buy or rent price

Do you know how long you will keep your boat? If you don’t, that’s fine. But you should be thinking about the future of the vessel and whether you should be considering rental berth space or to buy it. Whatever you decide will affect the price, so make sure that you have a clear understanding of both options before you commit to either.

Future investment

Whilst you may not have your boat forever, there’s no reason that you can’t still own your own boat storage. In fact, in certain locations that are popular hotspots for other boat owners you might find that you’ll be able to rent out your berth space and make yourself some money.

Alternatively, as certain harbours become busier and space becomes more in demand, you might look to try and sell your marina space for a profit as the cost of space naturally rises over time.

Community

What’s having a boat without having boat friends? Some boat storage spaces come with a great sense of community of like minded enthusiasts looking to connect at the berth and on the water.

Before you choose a storage solution for your vessel, physically visit them all so you can get a sense of who you will be rubbing shoulders with, and what that storage space values of its peers.

Buying a boat is an exhilarating experience, but nothing compared to how to feels when you are handling your own vessel out there on the water. Finding the right storage place that is worthy of your boat can be daunting, but you shouldn’t worry as there are plenty of great places out there that are highly secure locations for your most prized possession.

To maximise your time out on the ocean, you should look to choose a location that’s close to you or the places you like to sail and start enjoying being a boat owner.
