After more than a decade of committing the crime in question, Bill Cosby has been sentenced to three to ten years in prison for sexual assault.

The former star of The Cosby Show had a hard fall from grace after attention was brought to the numerous accusations of sexual assault directed towards him.

Cosby was eventually convicted on April 26th for three counts of aggravated indecent assault which occurred in January 2004 at his home in suburban Philidelphia. The now 81 year old drugged and sexually assaulted Andrea Constand, who at the time, was the Director of Operations at Temple University.

Cosby was on the Board of Trustees and before the assault, someone who Constand saw as a mentor and a friend.

In her personal statement, the former athlete detailed the emotional damage caused by the incident and having to face her assaulter at work afterwards. Constand spoke of the impact the assault had on her career, mental health, and her life overall.

After 60 accusations from different women over the past couple of decades, Cosby was declared a sexually violent predator and received a fine of $35,000 as well as his sentence in prison.

Despite the somber nature of his trial, the former star was seen joking with his defence team in Montgomery County court before being taken into custody.

His wife Camille was not in court but released a statement claiming that Cosby was denied a fair trial.

Cosby’s sentence is a milestone for the ongoing battle against sexual assault and the #MeToo movement that is sweeping across Hollywood.

Despite Cosby’s defence team calling for lighter sentences such as house arrest due to the former actor’s old age and blindness, the judge ultimately determined that consequences for such immoral actions are necessary to set a precedent and teach a lesson.
