It appears that Bill Clinton is now working hard to save his reputation following comments in an interview that implied he did not owe Monica Lewinsky an apology.

The 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton is now working hard to back track on his comments made over Lewinsky that suggested he did not owe her an apology. He has since admitted that he got “hot under the collar.”

The comments came after a recent interview, designed to promote his new book, where Mr Clinton said that he made an apology to “everyone in the world…the apology was public.” However, when he was asked if he owed her a direct apology he said “No, I do not.”

Bill Clinton was involved in an affair during his presidency that ultimately had big repercussions for his time in parliament. However, at the time, Mr Clinton did apologise and ended the relationship. It is only the comments made in his recent interview with Today that has allowed the scandal to resurface and become the centre of media attention once again.

In response to the media backlash he has received since the interview, Bill Clinton said that what was lost in the interview “were the two points that I made that are important to me.”

He continued by saying that he did apologise for what he did saying “I meant it then. I mean it now” and elaborating that he apologised to his own family, Monica Lewinsky and her family and the American public.

Backing up his comments, Mr Clinton said that he is right behind the #MeToo movement and that he believes it is “long overdue” having tried to support it in the decisions that he made whilst president and beyond the current state thinks that “it would be good if we could go on with the discussion.”
