Dr. Graham Adkins ā€“ Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology

Dr. Graham Adkins - Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology
Dr. Graham Adkins ā€“ Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology

Dr. Graham Adkins is one of Sullivan Nicolaides Pathologyā€™s most senior histopathologists and known for his expertise in head and neck pathology. He also provides services in gastrointestinal and oral pathology.

Dr. Adkins trained in anatomical pathology at The Royal Brisbane Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital before joining the practice in 1987, the year he was granted Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

His first interest was cardiovascular pathology but on joining SNP he moved into gastrointestinal pathology, gradually taking over reporting responsibilities from Dr Nicolaides. He developed a special interest in head and neck pathology at a time when few people were specialising in the area. His father had taught oral pathology and through this he could see there was a need to provide a specialist service to general and ENT surgeons.

Dr. Adkins was for many years involved in the training of medical students and registrars with visiting appointments at The University of Queensland and The Royal Brisbane and Womenā€™s Hospital. More recently, his involvement in training has been on an informal basis as registrars rotate through SNP.

Now working part-time, he continues to provide accurate, concise and timely reports to referring clinicians, and to mentor the trainee registrars and junior pathologists at SNP through the provision of teaching cases and advice regarding the writing of reports and delivery of service.

Dr. Shahin Sharifi ā€“ Infinity Pathology

Dr. Shahin SharifiĀ studied medicine at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and graduated with his MD degree in 2002. He collaborated with the Iranian National Institute for cancer research for two years and was heavily involved in many large-scale cancer studies. Shahin then entered the area of general practice and worked as a General Practitioner in a rural region of Iran for two years before going to London (United Kingdom) to enter Physician training.

After successfully completing both parts of the MRCP exam in the UK; Shahin migrated to Australia and continued his training at the Mater Adult hospital, working as a Physician trainee across various medical specialties including Gastrointestinal Medicine, Haematology and Medical Oncology. It was during this period that he decided he wanted to focus more on the diagnostic side of medicine and to follow a career in Anatomical pathology.

In 2009, Shahin commenced training as an Anatomical Pathology registrar at various institutions in Queensland, including: Princess Alexandra Hospital, Gold Coast Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Womenā€™s Hospital, Mater Adult Hospital, Nambour Hospital, Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology and QML Pathology. This afforded Shahin exposure to a wide range of general and specialised histopathology cases.

Shahin was awarded Fellowship in Anatomical Pathology in 2014 and commenced work at InfinityPATH Pathology shortly after. His special interests include Skin, Urological and Gastrointestinal pathology.
