Dr. Johannes Wittmann graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1994 and has been in specialist gastroenterology practice at the Mater Hospital Brisbane since 2004. He completed his specialist training in Sydney and London and works as a part time staff specialist at the Mater Hospital Brisbane and in private practice with colleagues from the Mater Hill Gastroenterology group at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane. He is a RACP National Examination Panel member since 2010 and each year assists with the clinical exams at various sites around Australia. Dr. Wittmann is involved with peer education activities including the ongoing training and support of endoscopy staff and participating in national meetings as invited faculty.

Dr. Wittmann provides comprehensive endoscopic services including interventional ERCP, endoluminal stenting,  endoscopic ultrasound, upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, fibroscan, small bowel capsule endoscopy services and general gastroenterology and hepatology consulting services. His special interests include ERCP, screening colonoscopy and viral hepatitis.

Dr. Wittmann sees private patients at the Salmon Building offices of Mater Hill Gastroenterology and inpatients at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane. Dr. Neville Sandford – After graduating from the University of Queensland in 1976, Dr. Sandford completed his residency and physician training in Hobart before returning to Queensland to specialise in Gastroenterology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

He then spent two years as a Hepatology Fellow at the University of Southern California and Los Angeles County Hospital prior to becoming a Visiting Gastroenterologist at Princess Alexandra Hospital in 1986. There he helped establish the Hepatitis Management Clinic and continued to work as a Visiting Gastroenterologist at PAH until 2009.

Dr. Sandford served on the executive of the Gastroenterology Society of Queensland for 15 years and is a Past President of this Society.

Dr. Sandford undertakes procedures at Chermside Day Hospital, Brisbane Endoscopy Services at Sunnybank, Wesley and North West Private Hospitals.

Dr. Sandford is Chairperson of GastroIntestinal Endoscopy and Brisbane Endoscopy Services.

Dr. John Gibbons is a highly experienced gastroenterologist with twenty years’ experience in his specialist field. Over this time, his greatest professional achievement has been the establishment of a successful group practice, Gastro Services and Facilities, in combination with a state-of-the-art Day Hospital, Eastern Endoscopy Centre.

Dr. Gibbons has maintained a strong focus and interest in the assessment and performance of quality in endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures. His main motivation for this commitment to quality improvement, is obtaining the best possible outcomes for his patients. This is achieved through ongoing research, evaluation and the employment of the latest advanced techniques, technologies and equipment.

Graduating in Medicine from The University of Queensland in 1988, Dr. Gibbons went on to complete his advanced physician training at Greenslopes Private Hospital and the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He later undertook advanced therapeutic and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatogram (ERCP) training at Sydney’s Westmead Hospital. He was awarded his Fellowship of the Australian College of Physicians and returned to Brisbane to work as a senior VMO at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital for more than 10 years while setting up his private practice.

Dr. Gibbons currently works at the Mater Private Hospital, South Brisbane (procedures all day Friday), the Sunnybank Private Hospital (Tuesday mornings) and the Eastern Endoscopy Centre (Monday and Thursday mornings). He has Conjoint Committee recognition for endoscopic, colonoscopic and ERCP procedures as well as obtaining registration for the teaching and performance of capsule endoscopy.

Dr. Gibbons’ special interests include therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy, endomucosal resection, inflammatory bowel disease as well as ERCP. With these more refined skills, he now manages specific pre-malignant conditions and early malignancies (cancers) without the need for surgery.

His consultative gastroenterology practice focuses on the management of luminal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis) and pancreatic and liver diseases. Dr. Gibbons consults at Belmont and Stones Corner (alternate Monday afternoons), Sunnybank Specialist Centre (Tuesday afternoons) and Eastern Endoscopy Centre (Thursday afternoons).

Dr. Gibbons has taken an active leadership role in the gastroenterology community having been Director of Endoscopic Services at the RBWH and an Executive member of the Gastroenterology Society of Queensland (GESQ). He currently hold the titles of CEO and Director of Medical Services at the Eastern Endoscopy Centre.
