5 best features of Facebook you probably had no idea about

Facebook, with over 1.23 billion active users monthly, is a worldwide phenomenon that has become a common household name. Everyone has an account; Mum, Dad, your siblings, even the dog! But you already knew that Facebook has tons of users, so let’s dig a little deeper.

Here are 5 awesome features of Facebook we bet you probably didn’t know about:

Unfollowing

Annoying picture your cousin took of their cereal… ambiguous “inspirational” quote… cat photo… cat photo… Sound familiar? Our Facebook newsfeeds have become a trashcan for all the garbage people like, share, react to and comment on these days and there is always the same people who seem to post 50 times a day that you just wish would stop.

You know the people we are talking about. But you can’t unfriend them. Or rather you don’t want to, so what do you do? UNFOLLOW THEM! Allowing you to stop seeing posts from particular people, it is surprising that this feature is widely unknown by a lot of people. Simply click into someone’s profile and right next to their profile picture, you should see a little button with “Following” on it. Click it and scroll to unfollow. Thank us later.

Hidden Games

Bored of the current conversation topic on messenger? Challenge your friends to a game of basketball! Oh they live too far away? Well Facebook has you covered! Facebook’s best kept secret is that there is a multitude of minigames you can play for free on their apps and website!

For the basketball game, all you need to do is send your friends a basketball emoji then click on that sent emoji and in an instant, that drab chat has turned into a competitive match of hoops! The same goes for the Soccer ball emoji!

Other games include:

  • Words With Friends
  • Blackjack
  • Pac-Man
  • Gin Rummy
  • Space Invaders
  • Sudoku
  • Solitaire
  • 8-Ball Pool
  • Batman’s Bat Climb
  • Snake
  • Cooking Mama
  • EverWing

All of these extra games are available by clicking on the little ‘+’ button next to the camera in messenger then simply clicking “games”. Facebook just became even MORE addicting.

Ever lost some messages or that picture you shared that one time? Well now you can get your full Facebook history by going into your settings and scrolling to the bottom of the page to find “Download a copy of your Facebook data”. Now you can savour every last drunk message or status update you’ve ever sent or made! Gosh hasn’t technology come a long way?

Turn off Auto-Play Videos

Do you have a limited amount of data usage on your phone and nearly throw the thing at a wall every time another one of those annoying “auto-play” videos pops up on Facebook, effectively wasting your time and data? What if we told you there is a way to turn those off for good?

Head to your settings and on the left of the screen are options. Click the very bottom one that says “videos” and look for the option “Auto-Play Videos” which will have a button beside it with the option to turn them off. You and your phone will be thanking goodness when you save all that data. Just think about all the music you can download instead now!

Transfer Money Via Facebook

Have you ever wished you could wire someone cash easily without having to leave your Facebook app, click over to your bank app or your browser and log in to your bank account then transfer from there? No? Neither have we. BUT YOU CAN!

These days, there are plenty of services that will allow you to transfer money from your computer or mobile device, now including straight from your Facebook account (so long at the sender and receiver both have a debit card).

While this feature is mainly tied to Messenger, you can use it on regular Facebook as well. To set it all up, go to “settings” then “payments” and enter a debit card. Once you have been accepted, you can then send (or request) funds to/from another person. Now there is ANOTHER way all your friends can pester you on payday for a loan!

With all the features Facebook offer up now, it may very well be on its way to taking over the entire mobile app market! We hope you found something in these tips helpful.

If there is any that are left out, rest assured that once you have read through this article, you’re going to be much more noticing of the little things you can do on Facebook that make your experience so much better! We also hope you ‘liked’ this article! (Facebook joke intended).
