Batman producer defends casting Robert Pattinson as new Dark Knight

Michael E. Uslan, the longtime producer of the Batman films, is telling everyone to “wait until you see the movie” as a response to casting backlash against Robert Pattinson.

Since Pattinson was announced as the new on-screen Bruce Wayne, fans have been too quick to judge. Many detractors believe that the actor isn’t fit for the role while others cited his history with the Twilight franchise. People just don’t seem to think that the actor who rose to fame in his role as a sparkly vampire, Edward Cullen doesn’t have the chops to take on the bat suit.

Now, Uslan is urging fans to “focus on the filmmaker” arguing that director Matt Reeves should be trusted with his vision. Reeves, after all, probably sees something in Pattinson that most detractors just don’t. Speaking

Speaking at Germany’s CCXP Cologne event (via ComicBook), Uslan says:

“The star of the Batman movies is Bruce Wayne. Batman is the star. Batman is who everyone wants to see, along with the supervillains, so how does a filmmaker make the choice of which actor to cast? And I think the real key question for fans, and for all of us to focus on, is the filmmaker.

“My position is this: trust the filmmaker and give the filmmaker, and the filmmaker’s vision, the benefit of the doubt. Then wait ’til you see the movie.

“And then once you see the movie, judge the hell out of it. But I think that’s really the formula going forward. I couldn’t be happier, I couldn’t be more enthused, as a Batman fan, that Matt Reeves is the filmmaker in charge and has selected Robert Pattinson to be his next Batman.”
