Barry Knerr is one of the founders and owners of Bellevue Medispa, a beauty clinic in Nashville, Tennessee in the United States.
The Medispa offers Botox and dermal filler treatments, along with microdermabrasion and various laser treatments like hair removal and facial treatments.
Barry, what made you decide to co-found a Medispa?
At the time, I was a sales rep for a laser company. I realized that the area we live in, didn’t have any laser skin care businesses or medical spas yet. And my wife and I were really burned out from working in corporate America. So, the idea was born to partner with our families and open Bellevue MediSpa
What are some of the benefits of laser hair removal over waxing or shaving?
Many people experience discomfort and negative side affects from waxing and shaving, ie pain, ingrown hairs and hyperpigmentation. By eliminating the hair’s ability to grow, the issues mentioned above are greatly improved.
How long does a course of hair removal treatments take? It can vary between 6-10 treatments, depending on the hair color and skin type of each person. Treatments are every 4 – 8 weeks, depending on the area treated.
What is the difference between microdermabrasion and laser facial treatments?
Microdermabrasion is an exfoliating treatment for the outer layer of the skin. It uses very pure crystals and a pushing/pulling of the crystals to remove dead skin and impurities. A laser uses light energy to treat and improve hyperpigmentation, facial veins, fine lines/wrinkles and reduce pore size. While there’s no actual downtime, you must stay out of the sun after laser treatments.
How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore or add volume and fullness to the face. Fillers contain hyaluronic acid which, when injected into the skin, reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, contour the face and also create volume.
Do you recommend using dermal fillers and Botox in conjunction?
They do completely different things (Botox relaxes the muscles to stop creases caused by facial expressions). Fillers “fill in” or plump areas that have lost volume or fullness. They work well together for someone who may dislike their crow’s feet but also have lost volume in their cheeks. Or someone who has a frown between their eyes and also has thinning lips.
Are your Botox treatments 100% safe?
As with any medication there can be side effects. These side affects will vary depending on the dose, site and the experience and training of the person injecting the Botox. A complication might be some mild pain or tenderness or slight bruising. It is important to seek an injector with the right training and expertise to assure that the correct dose of Botox is injected and that the Botox is injected into the correct muscle.
