If you’ve been keeping tabs on Ashton Kutcher, you know all too well that he’s handsomely sporting a mustache nowadays. As it turns out, there’s a funny story behind what he hilariously refers to as his “lip jewelry.”

The actor recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where the host complimented his mustached and asked what it was about. Kutcher then goes into details he explains why Adele is actually the reason behind it.

Kutcher starts off by coyly referring to the singer as he described her as a “very famous English singer” who throws “lavish” birthday parties. But Fallon immediately guessed that he’s actually referring to the “Hello” songstress.

The That 70’s Show alum then revealed that he and his wife Mila Kunis were invited to Adele’s recent birthday party. On the actual day of the event, Adele comes over and tells them that the theme is “1970s New Year’s.”

“We [he and Mila] were both on ‘That ’70s Show.’ I think we got this,” Kutcher said. The actor then came up with his outfit for the parting saying he wore bell bottoms, boots and a scarf tied around his neck. He then thought of taking it a step further by shaving his beard into a 70s mustache.

But the joke was on him as Mila wore a “timeless jumpsuit” to the bash and he realized the theme was actually 1930s News Years. “I look like Burt Reynolds from ‘Boogie Nights,’” he tells Fallon about his get up. He then says that he has to “play it off like this is what I’m doing these days.”
