Celebrity relationships often finish as quickly as they begin, so it is often not much of a surprise when A list couples break up. However, every now and then a long-term couple call it quits and shock fans.

In sad news, Adele and her husband Simon Konecki have decided to separate after almost eight years together.

The news broke on Saturday, with a representative of Adele saying “”Adele and her partner have separated.”. The singer has been relatively private about her love life, and only confirmed her relationship in 2012 when she announced her pregnancy. Due to this, it should come as no surprise to fans that her representative expressed her wish for privacy “As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

Despite the impending divorce, sources have made it clear that both Adele and Konecki are “committed to raising their son together lovingly.”

Since news of the split, it has come to light that the couple did not sign a pre-marital agreement before tying the knot. This is relatively unusual in the world of Hollywood relationships. Under California law this means that Konecki may be entitled to up to half of the singers’ earnings from the time they were married.

Interestingly, if the pair choose to file for divorce in California, where they have a substantial property and Konecki has an office for his company, they may have to split everything evenly. Whilst this may seem like a big thing for most celebrity couples, Adele made it clear in an interview with Vanity Fair that money is “not that important a part of my life.”

Although it is currently unknown why the couple have decided to end their relationship, the separation appears to be amicable. The singer has in fact gifted Konecki a property worth over $600,000.
